What is ABS resin?

Overview

ABS resin is a thermoplastic resin made using a trio of organic compounds : acrylonitrile, butadiene and styrene. The “ABS” prefix refers to their initial letters.

Acrylonitrile, Butadiene, Styrene

Features and characteristics of ABS resin

Advantages

  • Good surface gloss and coloring and excellent appearance.
  • Excellent workability and dimensional stability.
  • Accommodates various other molding processes, including extrusion/injection
molding, blow molding, vacuum molding and calendar molding. ABS resin has also been used in 3D printer products in recent years.
  • Excellent chemical resistance.
  • Allows painting and plating.
  • Allows post-processing like cutting and welding.

Downsides

  • Poor weather resistance.
  • Soluble in organic solvents.
  • Flammable.

Features of Techno-UMG’s ABS resin

Addressing the shortcomings of ABS resin, we enhance performance across our diverse product line through strategic modifications and material integrations. For instance, ASA and AES, employing acrylic (A) or EP rubber (E) as their rubber constituents, exhibit superior weather resistance. These modifications have enabled us to offer products boasting enhanced heat resistance and transparency. Our range also includes numerous products fortified with added functionalities, such as antistatic and flame-retardant properties, achieved through the use of polymer alloys.
We will propose the optimal material from our wide range to address your concerns and meet all usage requirements.Get in touch today!
