Is ABS resin subject to PRTR?
The PRTR Law specifies 354 types of Class 1 designated chemical substances and 81 types of Class 2 designated chemical substances. ABS resin does not contain these designated chemical substances and does not fall under either the Class 1 or Class 2 designated chemical substances as specified by the PRTR Law.
However, for example, flame-retardant ABS resin* that contains 1% or more by mass, calculated as antimony, of the flame-retardant auxiliary antimony trioxide (designated as one of the Class 1 designated chemical substances) falls under the category of a "product containing a Class 1 designated chemical substance." As such, it is subject to a series of management measures prescribed by law, including quantitative understanding of its manufacture, use, and handling, just like Class 1 or Class 2 designated chemical substances.
*This applies to products up to the stage of being used as raw materials for molding.
For example, once a product has become one intended solely for use in the daily lives of ordinary consumers, it will no longer be subject to the law.
